One corner, one griddle, one very stubborn commitment to doing bar food properly.
The Beginning
Duke wanted a place his friends wouldn't leave
He bought a used flattop, six tap handles and a neon sign that took three electricians to hang straight. The plan was simple: burgers worth driving for, beer that never goes warm, and a room where nobody rushes you out.
Almost three decades later, the recipes still come off index cards in Duke's handwriting. The chuck-brisket blend is ground fresh every morning. The pit gets lit before the doors unlock. And the sign, thankfully, still hangs straight.
The Long Version
Milestones
- 1998
Duke Halloran signs the lease on a corner spot at East Pine and 161st.
- 2004
The back patio opens; the first live band plays to a crowd of thirty.
- 2013
The smoker arrives. Wings and brisket have been hickory-kissed since.
- 2019
Duke's daughter Nora takes over the kitchen and rewrites the burger.
- 2026
Twenty-four taps, ninety whiskeys and the same corner booth for regulars.
